Missing: Backbone. If found, please contact Morris Aldermen
Despite being well-qualified for the position and receiving the nomination of the Grundy County Republican Party, David Trotter was passed over by the Morris City Council in favor of the mayor's choice, Don Hansen, to fill the aldermanic seat vacated by Ken Seidler. While the mayor has the power to make the appointment, it can only be done with the advice and consent of the city council. Aldermen Brown and Barkley voted against Hansen's appointment.

I'M NOT THE SMARTEST GAL IN THE WORLD, BUT WHY IS MY FORMER BOYFIEND AND A ROOKIE TO THE CITY COUNSEL ACING LIKE A BIG SHOT AFTER ONLY BEING IN OFFICE A COUPLE MONTHS?
Could it be that the council members who voted for Hansen haven't lost their backbone at all, but indeed still have one?
If I was the mayor, I'd have done the same thing. It's politics. Let's just hope Don Hansen is an independent voice ... and not a rubberstamp for the mayor.
I've worked with Don on several projects for about 10 years. He speaks his mind, but 'toes the line', then walks away when 'it gets hard'. He's a nice guy, very honest, friendly, but disappointed me everytime when he walked away. He'll be my personal barometer of City Hall. If the Council is having real issues and a housecleaninig is needed; I'll know because Don will being walking away. He's just not a fighter.
Trotter would want more trees and bike paths
In response to the comment posted by "2remainanounamous4now"...have you ever heard of a dictionary or even spell check???
I really do not see the importance of your claim that Mr. Brown is your "former boyfriend" in relation to his position on City Council. As for your accusation that he is acting like a big shot, that is just a matter of your opinion. As you pointed out, Mr. Brown has only been on the City Council for a short time, so maybe instead of trying to defame his character, you should give him a chance to show the residents of Morris what he has to offer.
Any intelligent, educated person can see from reading your blog that you have nothing to back up your accusation except bitterness or maybe even jealousy.
By the way, I find it very hard to believe that Mr. Brown would have a "former girlfriend" (and yes, please note that I know the proper spelling of the word)who doesn't know how to spell words a simple as anonymous, council or boyfriend!!
Have a great day!!!
Calm down Darrell! Have another martini
At least Brown and Barkley won't be rubber-stamp aldermen like the rest of the wet noodles on the city council. I am very dissappointed with the way the rest of them handled the budget vote and the appointment.
You got somthin against trees?
Shugart when down a notch in my book. I thouht she was finally showing some leadership with her handling of the Senreq matter, but now it looks like she is back under the mayor's thumb.
Brown for mayor!
The mayor is laughing at the success of his "divide and conquer" strategy. Belt is laughing his way back to the bank.
Whats with brian of lagoons getting a city loan for the bar next door???? Damn...if I woulda known the city hands out cash for businesses I woulda hit em up myself.
$257,000 a year for the city attorney isn't so bad. Fast Eddy Vrdolyak got $1,000,000 a year for being city attorney of Cicero - until the mayor was convicted and sent to prison.
You can thank Dickie and the rubber-stamp city council for your high tax bill. They use a shell game called "TIF" to cover up how high city taxes really are.
There has been a 10-FOLD INCREASE in what the city pays lawyers since Kopzick took office.
Just another hit from the new band, Dickie and the Yes Men.
According to Wikipedia, there are 3,067 families living in Morris. If the city spends $12,000,000 on a new city hall, that would work out to almost $4,000 for each family.
This is Chicago-style politics, of the sort condemned by Mike Farrell and Luella Kellogg. But you don't hear them screaming about it now, because Dickie is a democrat.
Mayor 1 GCRP 0
It has been 17 years since I had the pleasure of meeting Martha Shugart in a professional setting.
I find her to be of the highest integrity.
She is not one to go in any direction unless she is a firm on her beliefs.
She is not a follower but a leader.
I have seen her first hand resolve issues that deemed impossible to resolve.
I sincerely doubt she would buckle under any issue no matter the pressure or persuasiveness that she might encounter in office.
She is care full to look at all angles before making any decisions as alderwoman.
I tip my hat to you Martha
What did Dickie promise to Martha to get her to change her vote?

It is easy to make degrading remarks about someone when you hide your name isn't it. Why not show some backbone and let all of us know who you are.
Trotter was passed over because he has no experience driving fire trucks.

It is easy to cast degrading remarks at others if you hide yourself as "anonymous".
I feel that you lack creditability as well as intellect!
Are we really using Wikipedia as a reference point? Jeez-us...
Shugart, Wolfe and Sereno angered a lot of republicans when they failed to support the republican nominee for aldermen. They can expect republican challengers in the next primary. I will not support any of the turncoats.
