City of Morris violates Open Meetings Act?

The City of Morris does not post agendas for city council meetings on it's website.

This omission seems to be in violation of the Open Meetings Act, Sec. 2.02(a), which provides that:

"A public body that has a website that the full‑time staff of the public body maintains shall also post on its website the agenda of any regular meetings of the governing body of that public body."

And, according to the Better Government Association, the City of Morris also has trouble complying with the Freedom of Information Act. Read their report here.

Yep, and as I just posted on my blog (giving credit to you and linking to your post) it appears the county may also be in violation of the statute.

I read through Lisa Madigan's information on the Open Meetings Act. It doesn't say anywhere that an alderman can't speak at a committee meeting. But the part about posting the agenda on the website is right there in black and white. I am really beginning to question the abilities (or the motives?) of the persons giving legal advice to the city council about the Open Meetings Act.

somebody should FOIA the invoices of the Morris City attorney.

At least the county meetings follow a set schedule for the most part. City of Morris likes to keep as many meetings secret as they can. How else would the insiders get anything done to suit their pocketbooks. Just like my subdivision (F.O.S.) that has no curb and gutter - an inside deal that was swung is now leaving us homeowners with the swampy ditches and crappy streets.

Blame it on Scotty...He is such a bright attorney...Morris should be proud...What a joke!

Someone please do a FOIA request for checks issued in the summer of 2006 from the "Mayor's Park and Improvements Fund."

Something very interesting might be found.

The rumor mill is churning over at the county building. Rumor has it that Fred Bourdelais is reading and monitoring these blogs daily. Maybe he will step up to the plate and update the county website ASAP, but I wouldn't hold my breath!!
So, this must be how he is earning his $70,000 while he rides out the wave waiting for his retirement date. By the way, does anyone know when that is????

The Fields of Saratoga curb/gutter issue was debated for months under Feeneys administration.Swampy condions were caused by homeowners not getting proper grading done by either contractor or landscaper. They were supposed to get a final grade done by Chamlin and Associates.
Crappy streets??Point out the potholes,or ruts would you.

Where's the park site donation in Rockwell Estates or Deer Ridge? Why did Burla get to build in Morris for years before giving the city "a deal" for the land for a park across from White Oak?

Here's another one....try looking into the local lumber yard delivery ticket that gets billed to the City of Morris Water Department. Someone has a damn nice shed in their yard.

Dickie and Scooter don't want people to know what they are doing.

I believe Burla did make Park site donations. However the city opted for the cash in lieu of land. It's the city's choice by ordinance to request land or cash. So, if the city took the cash option, what did they do with the money? They certainly didn't invest in it into our parks! By the way, since my post earlier regarding the lights staying on all night; they are now turned off nightly. Thank you. These blogs are more powerful than calling City Hall and city police.

6/28 9:11 Are you sure it isn't the bathrooms built at the ballparks by White Oak?

Actually, I think Fields of Saratoga was approved under the Washburn administration. But it is the only subdivision approved in decades that was allowed to forego curbs and gutters.

If Washburn was Mayor in summer of 1992 then that was him.I remember dealing with Feeney when we moved in in 1993.

I still don't see what's wrong with the roads and as far as swamps, all around me flows just fine...why??because the ditches were properly graded.

Maybe for you, but we have had cattails growing in front of our place. Take a look around at the mucky mess your neighbors have to go through just to cut the grass. many a shoe I have hosed off because of the muck just from cutting grass. I see some of the people near the back even filled it in and put in a culvert across their land. I wish we had money to do that too.

yes I have seen some with problems but once again as I said it's because of improperly graded lots by the contractors or landscapers or homeowners. It wasn't the citys fault.
As far as the culverts go,if they cause damage to a neighbors home by "pushing" the water to somebody else, they are liable for damages and open for a lawsuit. Why,because they did not follow the proper grading procedures set in the by laws.

By laws written by the developer that we shouldn't trust for obvious reasons.

How's your (the city's) lake in FOS? Is it as stinky as always? Mayor says no filtration or water pump and so there is none. The king has spoke.

Belt should padlock the doors at meetings, like they do in Gardner.
