The sheriff commenting on a personnel matter before concluding the investigation is unprofessional. It is just the sort of Chicago-style negative politics that we don't need in Grundy County.
Glad it wasn't my daughter Brown was hitting on.
As much as this is a story of one man's possible mistake, it is more of an indication of why too many years in authority warps the mind. If the Sheriff took care of education and reminders of the stress of the job and the trouble it can generate in personal life perhaps these situations can be avoided. It is time for the Sheriff to retire also, too much politics, running campaigns for the SA, past and present, ignoring liquor laws, and wanting to be the center of attention in County political decisions. Pay attention to the employees instead of yourself, Sheriff.
How old is your daughter? Certainly not in her 40's.

Does anyone really know what the harrassment was? Was it a few crude jokes? Was it an old relationship gone bad and she's hooked up with the Dem's for revenge? Or was it truly a persistent unwanted advances? I think, I smell like a rat. And, why does the Mayor have to confer with Mr. Belt? Brown was ELECTED (just like Teri Shaw) and I don't believe he can be "removed" by the Mayor! This seems very minor in the grand scheme of things. But, when Mr. Brown doesn't want the $12million city administration facility - it is better to get him out. It is sad for a town of our size with have these petty little arguments. If we all focused this engery in one direction think of the things we could accomplish!
Bet anonymous 10:06 p.m. is either Belt, Kuppy or Lana. Probably Belt. Belt knows full well that he'd have to be in his 60's or 70's for this woman to be his daughter, since she is of the menopausal age.
The story going around is that the complainer is an intern in her mid-forties, who rode with Darrell on one occasion. She wants a full time job, and probably wants to curry favor with Marketti. Maybe she was even pressured.
I don't know specifically what was alleged. However, everyone should bear in mind that asking a co-worker out is not sexual harassment. Neither is an isolated off-color remark.
Usually, valid sex harassment claims involve a manager or superior who makes repeated unwelcome advances toward a subordinate and then retaliates against the subordinate for refusing those advances, such as firing or demoting the subordinate.
Also, off-color remarks and jokes are generally insufficient to constitute sex harassment, unless they are so pervasive that it creates a "hostile workplace." This is a difficult standard to meet.
Why are the sheriff and mayor going out of their way to get this into the press? Personnel matters are supposed to be confidential until the investigation is finished. Will Kopczick stoop to anything to silence a critic and protect his cousin's paycheck?
I am a lifelong democrat, but I am disgusted by the slander campaign being carried on by Kopczick and Marketti.
I wonder why Brown felt the need to retire early? I'm sure he could have explained all of the rumors away.
In was unethical and irresponsible for Marketti to comment on this matter.
Kopczick's comments sounded rehearsed, like he he knew the paper was going to be calling.

He probably chose to retire to keep his pension. Since he was a govt employee, he would have lost his entire pension if they would have fired him. That is alot of money to throw away! Any semi-intelligent person can see that this allegation was a set up; first Brown challenges the Mayor's quest to spend extravagantly on the new City Hall building and the next thing you know, this allegation is being fed to the public via the media. Why isn't the Sheriff and/or Mayor and/or State's Attorney defending their dedicated employee?? Funny, the media hasn't mentioned anything about the accuser, makes one wonder if she even exists. Rumors that I heard last night while at Cruise Night were that this woman isn't even from this area. It seems whomever was behind this staged attempt at ruining a good man didn't think their plan through and too many holes are starting to open up.
Maybe Marketti is jealous of Brown since Brown is a hottie!! Marketti just couldn't take the competition any longer and decided the only way he could find a woman was to eliminate the competition! Maybe the "accuser" wanted Brown and when she didn't get his attention, she decided to make him pay. I hope someone starts getting the dirt on her because I'm sure there is plenty.
sledge, somebody made a threat towards Darrel Brown on this blog April 26, 10:59 the end of the person's comment said "bad idea for Darrell" I know you have everyones ip address. If it came from a public building it ought to be easy enough to retrieve.
Dick and Scott pushed Hayse out, like a couple of common thugs. The story is well-known at city hall.
Maybe the mayor will do Darrell a favor and contact the FBI again and find out who threatened him on April 26 10:59am
too bad none of these people (kuppy, sobol or marketti) are going to be challenged in next year's elections. they need to be sent a message at the polls next year. how do we send a message at the polls otherwise? is the republican party putting up any candidates?
I agree with these postings...What does Dickie have to do with any of it....If there is something going on at Darryl's work place....that matter should stay there...I believe that Dickie and the Morris paper should stay out of it...
Why don't you talk to Doug Hayse. He retired. He worked hard for the city for years. Doug was appreciated by both Democrats and Republicans. The job of Police Chief holds a lot of responsibility, even in a small town like Morris. Doug has friends in both parties. I don't know anyone who doesn't appreciate Doug's contribution. He is a great guy. Sure, he is working again, just like a lot of young guys who retire continue to work. Minooka got lucky to have Doug. No one pushed Doug out of his job in Morris. Doug chose to leave.
I hope we get a good alderman to replace Brown. We don't need anymore spineles jellyfish like Shugart and Wolfe.
We don't know if the allegations are true - we don't even know what the allegations are.
That is why it is so disturbing that Marketti would publicly comment on the matter. Many sheriff's deputies have been disciplined over the years for offenses large and small. Never before has the sheriff's department publicly commented on an internal personnel matter before formal criminal charges are filed.
The way Marketti handled this matter speaks volumes about his motivations.
Personally, I'm glad hayse is gone. He was a tyrant. I had heard that every time a raid was done on the "happy endings" place, someone there was tipped off and the cops didn't find anything. That only had to come from the highest up. A liking for businesses with half naked women seems to run in his family. You people need to get off your dem vs.repub stance. They're all twisted and out to reap their own benefits, including ole Curt. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Look at the lengths the City of Chicago is going to protect its officers from unjust and just accusations. I concur bad cops should be rooted out, but by nature most good cops will acquire a false accusation during a lenghthy and "active" career.

Doesn't it seem funny that after 29 years Marketti gets rid of yet another fine deputy. Thanks for all the hard work Darell heres a big screw you. For those of you who dont know but this has happened before. Dan Carey's life ruined because of what our big bad sheriff had to do with it. Carey lost everything, his family, money, job, insurance, pension. And made it nearly impossible for him to recieve any kind of compensation for all the years he served the county. So before you judge Brown just think of all the trips that Marketti has made to Vegas on county money to see his women...and all the trips to Culvers on county money for those jumbo cheeseburgers. This is a man we want in office?
Don't say that about Martha or she'll lose her job and seat on the council.

July 15,7:37am....are you serious? Do you honestly believe that "an old relationship gone bad" would waste her time hooking up with a Dem to bring someone down? I'm one of his "old relationships gone bad" and I surely wouldn't stoop so low as to hook up with a political party to ruin someone's reputation. Maybe the accusations are true and maybe they are not, either way hopefully the truth will prevail and the record will be set straight. However, the public will never know now that he retired from the department and city council.
Darell's rep as a ladies' man finally caught up to him..he found a woman that didn't fall for his charm...kudos to her!!
