Some questions that I would like my alderman to ask at the next Morris City Council meeting:
Is the tenant operating the Morris Airport restaurant current with the rent? If the rent is not current, how far behind is it?
If the rent is current by the time of the meeting, when was it paid and in what amounts?
The city took a heavy-handed approach in evicting the previous tenant. Does a different standard apply to the current tenant?

What is the name of the campaign contributor?
Of course different standards apply for him. Thats not the only thing he's behind...can he get it up?
It was awful the way the city treated Marta. Dick and Scott viciously attacked Marta in the media and at the city council to justify her ouster. Was she kicked out in order to install a crony? Marta ran a great restaurant at the airport, and she paid the rent.
Funny what the city will overlook when it comes to a crony. He's no better than the next loser. there's a reason the bill on that cap rides so low.
Wrong Marta was never up to snuff at the airport. She was evicted by the Health Dept. old news sledge the city did not evict.

Marta always ran a clean restaurant with great food. It was the city-owned building that was not up to snuff.
When bringing city water to the airport, the city cut off hot water to the bathrooms in the airport restaurant. The Health Department notified Marta that hot water had to be restored. Marta hand-delivered the notice to Dick. (Dick claimed in the MDH that he didn't remember seeing the notice).
Despite repeated requests by Marta to Dick, the city failed to make the repairs and the Health Department eventually shut the restaurant. Even after the restaurant was shut, the city failed to make repairs. Instead, Scott Belt sent a letter to Marta demanding that she move out. I call this an eviction by the city.
It was only after the city succeeded in getting Marta out that it made repairs. Then, in a no-bid deal, the city leased the restaurant to the mayor's pal and campaign contributor.
The story is well known. Ask Marta, she will tell you all about it.
After what the city did to Marta, a lot of people are interested in knowing whether the new tenant is paying the rent.
He doesn't have to pay the rent, per ordinance, the Mayor and his buddies get free booze and samiches at the tavern on the corner. Haven't you seen those afternoon bloodshot eyes? Chek em out sometime. Friday's are the best.
I ate breakfast at Marta's airport cafe and it was two trips in one--first and last. The food was awful--cheap product cooked in dirty grease, dirty grill, in my opinion.
Marta should be much happier at the Holiday Inn with a bigger store, closer to town, traffic from I80. Is she having success there?
Check your cash register receipt, by the way. She had a funny cash register at the location downtown, compliments of Myron, the cash register man and former Morris resident. It added some kind of mystery additional amount as a subtotal, if memory serves. It happened all the time but was an "oops! mistake! we'll get that checked out! thanks for pointing it out!" kind of excuse.
Marta paid the rent. Does the new tenant pay? If not, why isn't the city taking action?

People are fed up with corruption and cronyism in local government.
Not surprising Sledge...most Morris residents are getting fed up with these types running the city...it won't be long.
An anonymous commenter seems to think the title of this topic is "Bash Marta." The topic of this posting is whether the NEW tenant is current on the rent, and if not, why the city isn't doing anything about it.
The Marta Basher is probaly someone from city hall, using the same strategy to try to justify their deplorable behavior. I have never seen such a vicious personal attack against a respected local business person. These men should be ashamed of themselves.

I have to pay my rent. If the tenant isn't paying his rent, he should be evicted.
Maybe he will go back to working at Sears to earn a little extra cash in order to pay the rent up.
I worked at the restaurant way before marta owned it...the bathrooms never had hot water and let's face it...the building was always an old airplane hanger with a drop ceiling and woodpaneling walls. I remember having to get birds out of there all the time!!!
Poor Marta she got shut down again!!!! The Health Dept. shut her down not the city. GUESS YOU HAVE TO EAT CROW SLEDGE.
This post is pretty old i just hope people still read it. I want the people of Morris to know what is being done to Marta at the Holiday Inn. If you knew you would never have friends or family stay there ever again. She has put her heart and sole into that place. She is being forced out of her lively hood once again for no good reason. It was bad enough what happend at the airport now this. She don't deserve this at all. She has been in this business for many years and to be treated like this now is just shamefull.
