Mayor gets 22% salary increase

According to this Morris Daily Herald article, the mayor will be getting a whopping salary increase. Not only does the mayor's salary go from $68,798 to $71,550, he also will receive an additional salary of $15,000 for being "liquor commissioner." Being liquor commissioner is part of the statutory duties of being mayor. Hasn't this always been considered part of the job? This amounts to $17,752 over the current salary, or 22%.

The move was spearheaded by alderman Brian Feeney.

Time to celebrate! Roll me a big fat doobie!

I believe the paper said the raise was over a period of time, not all at once! Come on people give the man a break, Has he really been all that bad for the City? Considering what we had before, I think he's doing a great job!!

The salary increases referred to are just for the first year. If you look at the figures over several years, Dickie's pay has been increased $26,701.92.

The % increase is shown over years yes however the $15,000 for liquor commissioner is an increase not represented in the percentage.
Until now the liquor commisioner position has not paid extra money. That is where the 22% is coming from.

I will say I think Kop is worth the money. He's everywhere at numerous events that only mayors who have admins doing the day to day show up for. I think he does a lot for the community and is a step up.

I disagree with his extension of TIF but in seriousness that is what is best for the city perhaps not all the taxpayers or schools but def. for the city he works for.

This is the same kind of corporate CEO greed that has bankrupted the federal government.

This will get Dickie a nice boost in his pension. The city will still be paying for this 30 years from now.

The law requiring the salary to be set 6 months before the term starts was introduced by our own Ray Christiansen on behalf of Kenn Kennedy of Morris, who drafted the legislation.

There is a public hearing on Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th at 6 o'clock about Diamond's expansion to put an intermodal at I55 and Lorenzo Road. Scheduled to be held at the Diamond Banquet Hall located behind the liquor store. The public is encouraged to attend as this will result in 40,000 to 60,000 additional trucks on our roads daily.

Personaly I think the Mayor has done a lot for Morris. I think we all should walk in his shoes before we judge. I do not know him personaly but i do scratch my head on the Brien Feeney idea.

I tend to agree with 8:08AM be there. Many of us don't realize the changes that can happen with something this big. And even if it doesn't effect us directly anyone attending can learn from the hearing how to deal with this kind of operation. It's only an hour or so and will be enlightening.

Be there -

40,000 - 60,000 trucks, DAILY? Who does your math, Lehman Brothers??
On the low end, it would equal 1,666 trucks an HOUR. That would be 27 trucks a minute. To use your "high" estimate, it would equal 2,500 trucks an hour, or 41 trucks a minute. The lack of intelligent and informed people here are staggering....
Light a fattie for us. See you at the meeting...

WOW and it only took years of negotiating WITHOUT a contract for the City of Morris Public Works and Police to get a raise for 3%. Interesting.
