Shugart and Cook on boundary line agreement

Morris alderman Martha Shugart and Channahon village president Joe Cook will be on WCSJ this morning, Tuesday August 21, at 9:10 a.m., to discuss the proposed boundary line agreement between Morris and Channahon.

Shugart has skillfully negotiated a proposed boundary line agreement which would give Morris two of the four corners of the Brisbin Road interchange. Additionally, Channahon would de-annex almost 300 acres to Morris. If the agreement is approved, Morris stands to receive substantial property tax and sales tax benefits from economic activity at the interchange. Morris mayor Dick Kopczick opposes the plan.

If there's nothing "in it" for Dickie and his friends, why would the mayor approve of it?

Allowing Channahon to annex property up to our doorstep was one of the major failings of the Bob Feeney administration. Kopczick is determined to follow in his footsteps. Be it politics or ignorance, Nero fiddles while Rome burns.

To Martha Shugart:

YOU GO GIRL!

The mayor's obstruction of this agreement is jeopardizing federal funding for the interchange.

good that Martha's so actively pursuing this. We need to know why the mayor's against it, though. After the Channahon annexation fiasco 7 years ago, we want to make sure Morris gets its due.

Neither Martha nor Joe said exactly what those federal or state deadlines are, though, before we lose Brisbin Road funding. If it's pretty soon, I see the rush. If it's not for a while, let's think about it a bit.

I agree--why does the mayor oppose this? Could it be he wants us to have all four corners?

Channahon creeping into Grundy County and ending up on Morris' doorstep happened on a Republican mayor's watch, not a Democratic mayor's watch. That was one of the many reasons that mayor lost re-election.

Stop with the partisan stuff already! The important thing is to pay attention, find out what is going on and form an educated opinion. The truth be told, political party affiliation shouldn't matter for mayor and council as much as if and how they are working to protect the interests of the City of Morris and the citizens!

Work together people. Co-operation.

I find it halarious when someone says stop being partisan when you disagree with their assessment of the facts.
Lets work together for the children. I hope your joking like a lot of comments made here. If not please peddle that spin down the road.
Work together people, Co-operation, thats for the laugh.

If Dick doesn't wake up, Morris won't even get two corners. Everyone is well aware that Bob Feeney was a republican. There are rotten politicians in both parties.

If memory serves i think Bob holds a poltical science degree and not one in h.s. home ec.

Its refreshing to see an alderman try to fix a problem thats been plaguing our city for years. This will not go down easy at city hall because the mayor and city attorney like to spoon feed the alderman what they need to know. Maybe when this is done Martha can start on the police contract. She sure showed the mayor and brian feeney that shes no push over on that senreq contract.

9:14, This town has $50,000.00 back in the bank because of Martha over that senreq boondoggle. The ceo of senreq happens to be the chairman of the will county dems and dickies old campaign gooroo. And just happened to get a $50,000.00 start up loan from the city. We need more alderman like her.

I just put in another 9.75 hour day, and boy am I exhausted.

Before everyone jumps on the Martha bandwagon about fixing the police contract problems, she is one who was on the committee to re-nig on the offers made by the city's negotiating team.

A couple of clarifications:

Mayor Bob warned about Channahon's plans, but the Council wouldn't listen.

The whole Channahon situation has more to do with Dollinger and his pals than anything else. Morris wasn't willing to give in to their demands, but Channahon was. The question to ask now is, what is Dollinger getting out of this boundary agreement?

Kopczick and Belt are working to derail Shugart's boundary line agreement. These guys will stoop to anything, no matter how much damage results to the city.
