It's a start

The District 54 Board has voted (with two opposed) to eliminate one administrative position, that of Finance Director. It's about time at least one taxing body has determined to make fiscal responsibility a priority. Other taxing bodies should follow their lead. As an added bonus, the board did not consider any resolutions asking for the resignations of the dissenters.

To the person who left a comment suggesting alderman Sereno is being a bit hypocritical - you make a very good point, but could you clean it up a bit, ommiting the f-word, etc., then I will publish.

sledge it was meant to be hard. i cannot stand such flagrant bullshit from somebody who does one thing, and tells everybody else they need do something different. post it and let the old f'er read it.

Re. District 54 eliminating the Finance Director etc.

If only you and everyone else knew what is really happening in Dist. 54 your "It's a start" should read, "It's a beginning to chaos!"

Stay tuned for some interesting Herald News reporting. Ms. Shaw has started with her AGENDA so no more blaming past administrators and business managers/finance directors when the
*#%? hits the fan. I'm all for fiscal responsibility but, OHMYGOSH, just wait and see!

I am so scared of what's to come that I could wet my pants but I'm not that young or that old! Let the new era begin...should I sell my house while Morris is still a good place to live?

It sometimes becomes apparent to organizations (government bodies, corporations, school districts, hospital administration, etc.) that greater fiscal responsibility and cost cutting is in order. I've noted that often the measures taken by an administration resemble the fox guarding the chicken coop. In a school system, e.g., a number of younger teachers are laid off & valuable programs are cut, usually to the detriment of the children. Sometimes these cuts almost seem vindictive. How often do these cuts involve administrators, or the assistant to the assistant administrator's executive secretary's copy machine manager?? Most organizations' managements will protect their own salaries and jobs. They either lack the insight into cost cutting or are less than honest in the process. Corporate America is ahead of the game in this regard, because they have to be. They can't raise your taxes year after year, so they need to be more responsible with their money.

Improved fiscal responsibility will probably not arise from a school principal, a superintendent, or a hospital administration. Change may have to come with professional outside advice, retained by the school board, if individual board members don't feel qualified to make the tough decisions.

I left a comment yesterday that basically disagrees with your "It's a start" comments. While I think that we should all strive for fiscal responsibility, I don't happen to agree that eliminating the financial director in Dist. 54 is the answer. Is there a reason you chose not to publish my comments from yesterday? They were very tame although different from yours...so?

Very few comments have been rejected, only a handfull since this blog was started. Sometimes it takes a day or two for me to review them. I think that is your comment at 9:44 pm yesterday.

Thank you. It is and I'm happy that you are still blogging away since several of the blogging sights appear to have lost their steam. I wish more people knew about this site. It is entertaining, aggravating, informative and sometimes, actually many times, thought provoking! Thanks again.

Sereno built a pole barn hardware store thirty years ago, but thats ok. now the snake wants to pass so many rules that an average person could never get a start like he had in this town without having millions. Now if somebody talks about building something like he did years ago he flies off the handle and says this building does not conform with what the city wants because scott belt tells him so. What a hypocrite.

You folks need to read the IL School Code. I hear stuff like "why do we need a superintendent" or "we don't need a treasurer" all the time...except, by law, we DO have to have them. It's all kinds of fun to make stuff up, but looking up the rules and laws changes all that speculation to a small murmur. It's going to be fun seeing how Shaw's incompetent team manages to get a bond on a committee of school board members, teachers, and volunteers to handle the treasurer's job. You think taxes were high before...wait until the bill comes in on THIS board's credit card charges.

How about the latest from District #54 Board, Spring 2008 trying to pass a referendum. Oh yes, it's true. Why did they bring back programs (Band, full day kindergarten)if we don't have the money??? Oh I forgot let's tap the taxpayers again.....will this board ever learn!
