The salary your school superintendent earns is just a part of his or her total compensation. Annuities and other allowances can add thousands of dollars on top of each school chief's base pay.
The Herald-News filed Freedom of Information Act requests with area schools in order to gain a clearer picture of how taxpayer money is being used to pay superintendents. Use the drop-down menu below to find how much your school district paid its leader during the 2008-09 school year.

What is the total cost of each of Morris school district's supt's? Compare that to Coal City's supt's salary/benefits. Consolidation makes a lot of sense.

"MSD 54's superintendent recieves the same compensation as veteran superintendents in the area who have more students and more experience. This same superintendent (who has never managed her own classroom and had MSD pay for her degrees prior to being qualified) hired a special populations director who has never had his own special eductation classroom. Taxpayers in MSD 54 also pay for this ineptness with nearly twice the tax rate of neighboring districts. MSD 54 students also pay for this through 20 year old textbooks. I'm tired of the political BS while our community suffers now and our children suffer forever."
